When it comes to the problems that we have as humanity, we have two duties.
The first one is to know.
In a world where information is anything but reliable, we need to strive to truly obtain knowledge about the challenges we face from sources that are not politically or ideologically biased, and embodied by people who are not afraid to face things that are obviously not easy to handle.
The second duty we have is to have hope.
We, the living of today, can – and must – deny the fact that history is a set of projections based on our past behavior projected into the future. We are here and now, and we can modify any prediction by changing our way of doing things starting this very moment.
There’s a third thing that, not being a duty, can help us fulfill the first two.
We need to stop seeing the world as a hierarchical place and start working together as one. Institutions are made up of humans, religious organizations are made up of humans. Companies are made up of humans.
And then there are humans.
“We, the living of today, can – and must – deny the fact that history is a set of projections based on our past behavior projected into the future”.
We need to return to the “human” as the unit of a common measurement system, so that we can all be equal and combine efforts that add up, regardless of the perspective from which they are made.
There is a fourth thing that is not a duty, nor even advice. It is rather an exhortation, because time in terms of the world is limited and therefore precious, but there is something even more important than that: Your life time.
Therefore, go and find a place, a community, a website, a social club or the corner of some neighborhood that allows you to put all these things into practice. As a generation, this is the role we have been given, and it’s imperative that we find, on our own terms, the tools that allow us to participate in a relevant way that aligns with who we really are.
There’s a place out there that surely has an empty spot ready for you to occupy.
Run.
